On the occasion of her first solo show in London, Easy Remedies for a Tired Heart, Fadekemi Ogunsanya portrays women who embody aspects of herself and the women in her life, inspired by the support she receives from her female relationships. Rendered primarily in soothing shades of blue, her works vary by medium, each creating distinct worlds with unique hairstyles and jewellery. Her small-scale paper works, inspired by illuminated manuscripts, delve into storytelling with references to mythology and personal experiences, while larger oil and acrylic paintings capture tender moments akin to family album snapshots, accompanied by "everyday poetry." A new mixed media series departs from her blue palette, using nostalgic materials like plastic mats and scrapbook paper to evoke girlhood. Ogunsanya's work highlights both the strength and vulnerability of women, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences.
