Kesewa Aboah (b. 1994) is a Ghanaian British artist based in London. She completed a BA in Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts, New York in 2017.
Aboah’s practice focuses heavily on process; modernising traditional techniques of embroidery and body imprinting to create bold 20th century tapestries. Her unconventional use of thread and paper relinquishes her control to the way in which the bodies take form, granting each work a personal narrative in both physicality and concept. The artist will typically use herself or the figure of a loved one as a tool to apply paint. Hours of untamed precision distorts her figures, realigns their limbs, rebirths their body, leaving a fragmented tribute to what once was.
Recent exhibitions include Manifold, Frieze No. 9 Cork Street, London, UK (2023); Bold, Black, British, Christie’s, London, UK (2021); IRL (In Real Life), Timothy Taylor Gallery, London, UK (2021). Her solo exhibitions include 12.26 Gallery, Dallas, US (2024); Incubator, London, UK (2023); 12.26 Gallery at the Armory Show (2022).
