Born in Jamaica (b. 1967), artist and glass sculptor Hugh Findletar’s childhood was filled with Caribbean legends and traditions. This underlying Jamaican imagination and culture translated into his current artistic practice and endowed his pieces with their distinct style and character. Findletar grew up in New York City and began his career as a photographer. The manner in which he captured the expressions, looks, and personality of his muses became an obsession which has endured throughout the years.
Findletar discovered the art of glassblowing during a trip to Kenya and began a long-standing exploration into glass-making, marrying the finesse of this Western craft with the expressive force of African art. Guided by his desire to master this ancient art form, Findletar relocated to Murano, Italy– home to the world's finest glass artisans.
Findletar’s work has been extensively exhibited around the world. Recent solo exhibitions include: Venice Glass Week, Venice, Italy (awarded by the jury 2021 & 2023); Blumengalerie, St.Moritz-Bad, Switzerland (2020); Spaceless Gallery, Paris, France (2019); PAD Paris, France (2019); and Milan Design Week (every year from 2015 to 2020).
