Anika Roach (b. 1996, London) is an artist who makes work that centres around the figure.
A lively colour palette, flattened forms and headless figures, in precarious positions, on varied sized canvases, are recurring features that have become characteristic of her paintings.
Her memories and imagined scenarios are intuitively merged with her large personal archive of classical art, sport, popular culture, and excavated histories. Assisting her exploration of external notions of identity that conflict an individual internal experience, interrogating questions of race, sexuality and gender.
Anika Roach studied Fine Art and the History of Art at Goldsmiths University in London. She was included in the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2020 selection. She has been the subject of solo exhibitions across the UK and has participated in numerous group shows, most recently exhibiting at Neither, London alongside Shawanda Corbett and Maiko Tsutsumi. She lives and works in London, UK.
